South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Friday be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) at the University of Venda.

The University of Venda on Tuesday said the Honorary Doctorate will be conferred on the Deputy President by its Chancellor, Kgalema Motlanthe, during a graduation ceremony to take place on Friday.

“During this graduation, a total of 450 certificates, diplomas and degrees will be awarded to deserving students who have achieved high levels of academic excellence in the fields of law, human and social sciences, mathematical and natural sciences, health sciences, environmental sciences, agriculture, environmental sciences and management sciences,” said the university.

University spokesperson Takalani Dzaga said former MEC of Sports, Arts and Culture in Limpopo and Member of Parliament, Joe Maswanganyi, will also graduate his Masters in Political Science (Cum laude).

“Maswanganyi’s research title is ‘Tourism’s Contribution to the Limpopo Province’s Economic Growth and Development: A critical Analysis’. This demonstrates that the university is effectively implementing its objective of creating future leaders,” said Dzaga.
