FOREIGN AMBASSADORS VOICE APPRECIATION FOR ETHIOPIA’S STABILIZING ROLE IN HORN OF AFRICA

ADDIS ABABA, Aug 8 (NNN-ENA) — Foreign ambassadors resident in Ethiopia have expressed their appreciation for the role played by the country in stabilizing the Horn of Africa, says Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Meles Alem, who adds that the diplomats have recognized that Ethiopia has been playing a crucial role in stabilizing the sub-region.

The ambassadors were briefed earlier Monday about the lifting of the state of emergency in the country after a vote by the House of People’s Representatives, the lower chamber of the Ethiopian Parliament, last Friday. The foreign envoys appreciated the relentless efforts being exerted by the government and the people of Ethiopia in ensuring peace and stability in the country and beyond its borders.

In this regard the lifting of the state of emergency would further enhance the government’s efforts in peace-building and increase co-operation with various stakeholders, they said. The ambassadors also pledged to provide support for Ethiopia in its effort to further enhance the country’s democratization process and called on the government to maintain sustainable peace in the country, Meles said.

Government Communication Affairs Minister Dr. Negeri Lencho, who briefed the ambassadors, said Ethiopia was committed to continuing to be a linchpin for stability in the region, no matter the challenges.

The painstaking follow-up of the Command Post on the fulfillment of the necessary requirement for law and order has resulted in the lifting of the state of emergency which lasted for ten months, Negeri added.

We are grateful to our partners for their understanding and patience during our predicaments in the past ten months. We are highly appreciative your confidence in our leadership ability to overcome the crisis,” Negeri said.

He assured that the government would leave no stone unturned to address issues of good governance, sustainable and equitable development as well as democracy. “You have a strategic partner to count on in this part of Africa,” he told the diplomats.
