FORMER AU COMMISSION CHAIRPERSON DLAMINI-ZUMA ACCEPTS NOMINATION TO CONTEST ANC PRESIDENCY

POLOKWANE, SOUTH AFRICA– The former chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, has officially accepted her nomination by the ANC Youth League to succeed President Jacob Zuma as president of the African National Congress (ANC), the country’s ruling party.

Addressing ANC members at a memorial lecture in honour of former ANC Youth League president Peter Mokaba in this capital of Limpopo province Thursday, Dlamini-Zuma, a former foreign minister and interior minister, and who was married to President Zuma, said she had served the country and the ANC with dignity her entire life.

The ANC Youth League had stated that it would support her to succeed President Jacob Zuma during the ANC’s elective conference this December.

Saying she had been humbled by the confidence shown in her, she added: The great part of my life has been service to the people of South Africa, to our organization, the ANC.

“So, there’s no way I can refuse the responsibility given by the ANC, but of course as disciplined comrades you have to work towards that so that the branches share that dream because the leadership of the ANC is eventually decided by the branches of the ANC.

ANCYL president Collen Maine said ANC members must be disciplined and stop insulting other presidential candidates who they are not supporting.

And nobody can stop us and we are certain that on the 20th of December, president Nkosazana Zuma will close the conference. During this campaign for comrade Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma we must not insult people by name, we must have a very disciplined programme and campaign and don’t talk bad about anybody you don’t support because that is not the discipline of the African National Congress.
