Dar es Salaam. Prominent Tanzanian model Tausi Likokola has urged the government to lift the two-year ban on the Miss Tanzania pageant.Speaking upon her arrival from the United States on Saturday, Ms Likokola said the pageant and its qualifying events served as springboards for aspiring models to launch careers in the fashion industry.”Miss Tanzania is an important stepping-stone for young women who aspire to become models or employ themselves in the fashion industry. The government should consider the ban imposed on the competition and give the organisers an opportunity to make amends. We should not slam the door on the faces of aspiring models for other people’s mistakes,” said the US-based model, who has worked with famous global names such as Gucci, Christian Dior, Issey Miyake, Tommy Hilfger and Escada.Ms Likokola said she was happy that Tanzanian models had broken into the highly competitive global stage, but added that their presence was still “very small” compared with other African countries such as South Africa. She named Tanzanian models doing well overseas as Millen (Hapiness) Magese, Flaviana Matata and Herieth Paul.
