Minister Jeff Radebe attends margins of United Nations General Assembly events in New York, 19 to 22 Sept

Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation and Chairperson of the National Planning Comission, Jeff Radebe will attend events on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly from 19 -22 September 2016 in New York.

Leaders’ Working Breakfast and Dialogue on Pension and Sovereign Wealth Fund Capital Mobilisation for PIDA Projects. This Continental Business Network (CBN) high-level panel will convene leaders to discuss practical initiatives and opportunities to mobilise institutional asset owners to invest in African infrastructure.

The CBN is a NEPAD and African Union (AU) initiative that serves as an infrastructure investment advisory platform for African Heads of State to engage and interface with high-level African policy makers and captains of industry on a range of strategic issues as well as the overall promotion of regional and domestic infrastructure investment projects to the private sector.

Minister Radebe would discuss – “The impact of the strategy to mobilise institutional asset owners to invest in African infrastructure on the related NEPAD Presidential Infrastructure Championing Initiative (PICI) -a South African perspective

The side event will bring together African Heads of State and Government and other high-raking officials, African Group in New York, heads of Pan African Organisations, heads of international organisations as well as development partners and stakeholders.

This year it is South Africa’s turn to convene the UN General Assembly and SDG Special Event: Measuring and Tackling Poverty in all its Dimensions the meeting as the host. This is thus the turn for Minister Radebe to be the host and lead the discussions on poverty and how South Africa is tackling it.

In leading the discussions Minister Radebe will not only provide the broad strokes of poverty reduction and elimination but will have an opportunity to put on record the breakthrough research on the weighting scheme in respect of the dimensions of poverty and this will answer in part the key question of how the poverty dimensions and their relative weights are measured.

Importantly also is the mobilisation for and promotion of the first United Nations World Data Forum which will be hosted in Cape Town South Africa from the 15-18 January 2017.

South Africa will showcase measurement innovation in tackling poverty.
