SOUTH AFRICA: EFF CONFIRMS COALITION ‘WARM UP TALKS’

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says no formal coalition talks have begun, but it says what the party describes as ‘warm up talks’ are underway. The EFF didn’t say which party it’s in talks with.

The African National Congress (ANC) has failed to get an outright majority in the metros of Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni or Tshwane, where it trailed the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the final results, or the municipality of Mogale City, west of Jo’burg.

The EFF will be the kingmaker in all these Gauteng municipalities.

EFF spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, says they are going to take South Africans into their confidence and have transparent talks.

“Whatever that is happening at moment, the people of South Africa must just know its warm up conversations.

“There are no formal talks; there are no formal deals or formal negotiations. As soon as there is a formal request for a conversation, we are going to be very open and transparent because we are building people’s municipalities and people’s democracy. It cannot happen without people’s participation and people’s knowledge.
