SOUTH AFRICA: FORMER AU CHAIRPERSON DLAMINI-ZUMA CALLS FOR UNITY AND DIVINE INTERVENTION

PRETORIA, — Former Chairperson of the African Union Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has called for unity among the people of South Africa and urged religious leaders of every denomination and faith to work together with government.

This comes amid the gathering of religious leaders of different faiths under the auspices of the South African Religious Forum in Phoenix north of Durban, with the aim of praying for peace and unity against political tension and killings in KwaZulu-Natal in particular.

Dlamini-Zuma says a positive dialogue aimed at bringing peace and stability in the country is needed – hence – calling for divine intervention.

She says social ills like cannibalism, the killing of women and abduction of children are still rife in KwaZulu-Natal.

Although it was a day of prayer for peace and stability in the country scores of African National Congress supporters also paid their respects to Presidential hopeful, Dlamini-Zuma by converging in their huge numbers.

Dlamini-Zuma says the social ills coupled with the killings of politicians and councillors and other forms of human abuse should be condemned and divine intervention is needed.

She called on religious leaders and society to fight the scourge of violence in the province.

Meanwhile she says the country has all the minerals and natural resources but its citizens that are still faced with abject poverty.

She says government must also look at free and compulsory education for the youth as a way to develop the country economically.

Dlamini-Zuma emphasised that skills are key to the development the country.

Meanwhile Bishop Selven Govender of the South African Religious Forum ,who hosted Dr Dlamini-Zuma on Sunday, has called on government to provide one religious leader in every school following the recent spate of social ills happening within school premises.

He says the carrying of guns,drug abuse, attacks of educators and the abuse of female learners by male learners is worrying.
