ZIMBABWE’S FIRST LADY ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING WOMEN IN JOHANNESBURG

JOHANNESBURG, Aug 16 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe has returned to Harare despite efforts to charge her with the assault of a woman in Johannesburg, according to various sources.

Zimbabwean government sources, the main South African opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), and some South Africa media say that Zimbabwe Grace Mugabe has returned to Harare.

She allegedly assaulted a 20-year-old South African model, Gabriella Engels, with an extension cord at a hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Sunday.

Engels then opened an assault charge against Mugabe at the Sandton police station.

South African Police Minister Fikile Mbalula said Tuesday that Grace Mugabe would be charged, and police said there were negotiations for Mugabe to hand herself over, but this never happened.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed that a 20-year-old South African woman was allegedly assaulted by a prominent woman at a hotel in Sandton.

The South African Police Service can confirm that after 1600 yesterday, 14 August 2017, the 20-year-old woman registered a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, police spokesperson Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo said on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old apparently sustained injuries to her face.

Naidoo said the investigation into this case had already reached an advanced stage. The suspect in this matter cannot be named because she has not as yet appeared in court. We request that the SAPS (South African Police Service) be allowed to conduct a thorough investigation and to follow due process.

The accused was due to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
