A 29-year-old man was arrested for alleged rape of a 73-year-old woman while she was sleeping alone at Thembeni locality, Rhamrha Village, Willowvale.
It is alleged she felt someone touching her. The suspect overpowered the victim and allegedly raped her. The victim managed to identify the suspect.
She alerted community members about the rape and they successfully traced and caught the suspect. The community handed the suspect to the Willowvale Police who arrested him. The community did not assault the suspect.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga thanked the members of the community for their assistance in apprehending the suspect. He also praised then for not taking the law into their own hands as the suspect was not assaulted.
The suspect will appear before the Willowvale Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 November 2020 on a rape charge.
