43-Year-old male suspect arrested on attempted murder in Motherwell

Police in Motherwell arrested a 43-year-old male on an attempted murder case today, after 79-year-old Tamsanqa Jusayi was seriously injured on 13 March 2021 when the suspect drove over him at high speed in front of his house in Nqabara Street, NU9, Motherwell.

This incident happened in the early hours of 13 March 2021 after the suspect knocked on the door of Mr Jusayi demanding to speak to his son Lubabalo. The suspect was told that Lubabalo was sleeping. A few minutes later after the suspect left, Lubabalo and his father went outside to the front of the house. The suspect then drove at a high speed with his vehicle in an attempt to run them over. Lubabalo managed to get out of the way, but Mr Jusayi was hit and driven over by the vehicle, after which the suspect then sped away.

Mr Lusayi was admitted with serious injuries at Livingstone Hospital and an attempted murder case was opened.

The investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Jungli, traced the vehicle and established that it belonged to an ex-girlfriend of Lubabalo. It was also established that her nephew drove the vehicle on the night of the incident.

The nephew was arrested on Friday, 26 March 2021. He will be appearing before the Motherwell Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29 March 2021 to face the charge against him.
