69-Year-old woman raped, 31-year-old man arrested

KING WILLIAM’S TOWN: Kei Bridge Police arrested a 31-year-old man for alleged rape of a 69-year-old woman. It is alleged that the victim was relaxing alone on Saturday, 02 February 2019 at about 20:00 at her home which is at Manqulo Village near Kei Bridge, Butterworth.

The suspect is alleged to have pushed the door and attacked the victim in a clandestine manner. After the victim was overpowered by the suspect, the latter is alleged to have raped her. Fortunately the victim identified the suspect as he is local man.

She registered a rape case at Kei Bridge Police Station. Police acted swiftly as the suspect was traced and arrested. He is due to appear before the Butterworth Magistrates’ Court on Monday 04, February 2019 facing a rape charge. Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu condemned the alleged rape of the victim. However, he praised the Kei Bridge Police for their expeditious response in tracing and arresting the suspect.
