72 Eskom substation batteries recovered, one suspect detained

Seventy two (72) Eskom substation batteries with an estimated value of 589 000.00 were recovered by police in Mthatha yesterday 22 November 2018.

One male suspect, 39 was arrested in possession of the suspected stolen property and the vehicle used to transport the batteries was also confiscated.

Police received information and followed on until they recovered the vehicle with the suspected goods namely 35 batteries of 12v and 37 batteries of 2v as well as fifteen (15) bags of substation portable earths with marking were recovered.

These batteries are alleged to have been stolen from Telkom sites in Mthatha, Bridge Camp, Ngcobo, Ngqamakwe and Dutywa.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon facing a charge of being in possession of suspected stolen property.
