WESTERN CAPE – In our effort to apprehend perpetrators for illegal trade in abalone, K9 members arrested a 41-year-old suspect for illegally transporting abalone.

The members were patrolling on the N2 opposite Macassar when they spotted a suspicious white VW caddy panel van. They then approached it and requested to search it, and found abalone in plastic bags.

Police confiscated abalone to the value of R108 600-00. A case of illegal transporting and possession of abalone was opened.

The suspect is due to appear in the Strand Magistrate Court soon on the mentioned charges.
