Aliwal North Cluster SAPS joins the Provincial Traffic Department in enforcing traffic rules on R58

Lady Grey � On Friday, 23 August 2019, Lady Grey Visible Policing Unit (Vispol), together with their Detectives Unit, joined a multidisciplinary roadblock operation with the Eastern Cape Provincial and Senqu District Traffic Department on the intersection of the R58 road, near Lady Grey.

A total of 189 vehicles were stopped and checked for invalid driver’s licenses, failure to wear seatbelts, operating unlicensed vehicles and operating vehicles with non-roadworthy tyres. A total value of R6000.00 worth of fines were issued for the contravention of the laws and regulations of traffic rules and law enforcement, including the transportation of illicit goods and meat products, with possible relations to stock theft.

Meanwhile, the Steynsburg and Venterstad Stations conducted their own roadblocks in their respective areas on Friday, 23 August 2019 as well.

While SAPS operations and awareness campaigns continue throughout the province, the Aliwal North Cluster K9 Unit visited Alheid van der Merwe Primary School to sensitise learners about the dangers of drug use. Alheid van der Merwe was one of the beneficiaries for Mandela Day, on Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane’s visit to Aliwal North, accompanied by Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Ntshinga, last month.

Aliwal North Acting Cluster Commander, Colonel Mpho Rabela, endorsed the multidisciplinary operation conducted in all stations saying, It is important that the Cluster carries out these operations with our stakeholders to enforce the laws and regulations of the country and to ensure that individuals comply with them. He also thanked the Provincial and Senqu District Traffic Department for the joined undertaking.
