Alleged kidnapping duo detained

POTCHEFSTROOM: Tireless efforts by a team of investigators paid off when two alleged kidnapping suspects, a female and male aged 24 and 45 were apprehended over the weekend in Roodepoort, Gauteng Province.

The suspects’ apprehension came after a case of kidnapping was opened following the alleged kidnapping of a 34-year-old businessman on Monday, 23 September 2019 in Potchefstroom. It is alleged that after kidnapping the victim, who is a businessman, the suspects called his family to demanded ransom of approximately R2 million. Nevertheless, the victim was found alive and in a healthy condition in Potchefstroom after the suspects were arrested and no ransom was paid.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane lauded the investigating team together with other role players for their determination in ensuring that the suspects are arrested and that the victim is found without any harm. Moreover, she said that the arrest will definitely send a strong message that the police will not hesitate to deal with criminality.
