Alleged murder suspect due to appear in court

In a bid to curb trio crimes, two alleged house robbers, both aged 27, are expected to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 27 December 2018.

The suspects’ court appearance follows an incident that was reported in the early hours on Christmas; Tuesday, 25 December 2018, at Freemanville, Klerksdorp. A 28-year-old victim was allegedly sleeping when the suspects forced entrance through the door into his room. The victim hid behind his wardrobe, whilst the suspects ransacked his room and took cash and cell phones.

The suspects were later arrested and stolen property recovered through the help of community members.

In an unrelated incident, a 23-year-old suspect was arrested for the alleged murder of Olefile John Leeuw (27) as well as for assaulting another man, believed to be in his thirties. According to information available at this stage, reports suggest the trio was involved in an argument that led to a fatal stabbing of Leeuw. Another man, who was also part of the scuffle, was admitted at hospital due to serious injuries he sustained. The incident took place at Lokgabeng village, Taung on Christmas; Tuesday, 25 December 2018 at approximately 05:00.

The matter was reported to the police who successfully traced and arrested the suspect. He is expected to appear in the Taung Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 27 December 2018 facing a charge of murder and assault with the intent to do Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH).

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended the police and members of the community for working together to ensure that the suspects in both cases were arrested, shortly after the crimes were committed. She said police will continue through Safer Festive Season operations to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.
