The body was in the advanced state of decomposition. Police suspect that the body may have been lying at the dump for about 3-4 weeks. Her head, arms and back were covered in black soot. Her black hair was also partially burnt. Her face is not recognisable. She was wearing a blue top.</p><p>It is alleged that the deceased is a coloured female, between 20 and 30-year-old. On her right shoulder, she has a tattoo of a flower.</p><p>Police are investigating a case of murder.</p><p>Anyone who can assist in the murder investigation or identifying the woman or tracing her next of kin or know of any female that may be missing for some time, is asked to contact D/Lt Col Allan Stuurman at SAPS Bethelsdorp on 071 608 1641 or Crime Stop 08600 1011 or their nearest police station. As they were busy with patrols in Thames Avenue they saw two males firing random gunshots in the road. The two suspects turned towards the oncoming marked SAPS patrol vehicle and fired several shots at the members who in turn shot back at the suspects who sought cover in a private residence in Thames Avenue. </p><p>On entering the house in Thames Avenue the members saw the suspect sitting in the lounge with the lady living at that address. The suspect said he was visiting the lady and had been sitting by her for the morning. The members searched the premises and found two firearms, and ammunition, hidden behind the bedroom doors.</p><p>The 20-year-old male was arrested and will be appearing in the Athlone Magistrate Court on charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The second suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested.</p><p>In an unrelated matter, Mitchells Plain Crime Prevention Unit continues to make inroads against the gangs in Mitchells Plain. On Thursday at about 22:30 members were conducting patrols in Lindsay Street, Eastridge when they noticed a suspicious looking male who held his right hand while he was running. The members stopped and searched him and seized a black .38 revolver with no serial number and five rounds. The members arrested a 32-year-old male on charges relating to the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The operation was conducted at various areas in the Durban CBD. Illegal posters were removed and the team also checked for compliance in terms of the Disaster Management Act as well as non-compliance of the municipal by-laws. </p><p>The operation was also joined by the Acting MEC for Community Safety and Liaison Kwazi Mshengu, Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Gonya and his management. The Durban District Commander Major General Vukani Mgobhozi was also part of the operation. The operation yielded good results and two suspects were found with illegal possession of firearms. They were placed under arrest for being in illegal possession of firearms. </p><p>The operation also focused on preventing robberies in the CBD. The successes were achieved during the operation includes 16 suspects who were arrested for various crimes such as possession of drugs, second hand goods act, possession of stolen property, counterfeit goods as well as Disaster Management Act. </p><p>A total 32 fines were issued for offences such as trading without a permit, failing to comply with police instructions and other offences. Their names are Siphiwe Mlangeni who reside at 20258 extension 08 in Bohlokong and Moratehi Radebe who stays at 10228 extension 08 Bohlokong.</p><p>It is alleged that the missing boys were together with another school boy of their same age and were walking together to the river next to the railway line not far from their homes to pick up herbs.</p><p>On their way the missing boys took another route and that was the last time he saw them. The police search team has been established to search for the missing children. </p><p>A case of a missing person has been opened and being investigated. She was on her way to Peddie to see a “prophet”.</p><p>Several attempts to contact the “prophet” and a “Ms Siphokazi” were unsuccessful.</p><p>The family became concerned when she did not return home. On 02 March 2021, she contacted a family member stating that she does not know where she is. All she can remember is that she was on her way to King Williams Town.</p><p>Acting District Commissioner for the Sarah Baartman District, Brigadier John Lebok said today, “This is the second teenager who has recently gone missing and this is extremely concerning. Parents, guardians and caregivers are urged to ensure that children are left in the company of responsible adults when they are not present and report them missing as soon as possible. He never arrived at his destination and he had since disappeared. The collective initiative kick-started in Chris Hani District, where different schools were visited.</p><p>The team from Corporate Communication and Liaison, Visible Policing, Junior Management Core and Community Policing Forum had engagements with different learners on Thursday, 4th March 2021 at Bulelani Senior Secondary School situated at Ezibeleni Township in Komani and Joe Slovo Freedom High School in Molteno respectively, with an objective of ensuring crime-free environments, in and out of schools.</p><p>Domestic Violence and School Safety were the main agenda points for the day. The response received from learners was overwhelming.</p><p>The primary goals of the Back-to-school roadshow include ensuring safety and the wellbeing of children and also creating a positive learning environment. Police officers pounced on the suspect who was in a flat. Upon searching the flat, police discovered a large amount of clear sealed straws containing heroin powder, green plastic loop containing heroin, large amount of loose heroin powder, plastic cut packaging material, sealer machine and other items.</p><p>Further investigation was conducted at another flat where two safes were found containing cash and heroin. The safe contained a digital scale, 495 green plastic loops of heroin as well as heroin. Cash of R65 673-00 was also seized by police. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is R400 000-00. A 26-year-old suspect was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs. She further sensitised the learners about different aspects relating to domestic violence.</p><p>Junior Commissioner Concept was presented as one of the effective tool, with learner’s participation, to fight criminality, and even change lives of the youth in communities. “You, as learners, have a critical role to play in the fight against crime, especially in your schools. We want to see you in different platforms discussing resolutions to criminality in your respective environments.” said Sergeant Xhanti Mjikeliso when he was convincing the learners to take the Junior Commissioner Project more seriously.</p><p>Substance abuse was condemned in strong terms, as it carries a negative impact to children’s lives, as some learners are addicted to alcohol and drugs at early ages. On the other side, some learners are being used by drug lords in drug dealing and trafficking.</p><p>The Team Leader, Colonel Michelle Matroos left a strong message with educators, encouraging them to be extra cautious when dealing with learners, as educators have a critical role to play in ensuring well-being of learners and creating conducive learning environment. She further emphasized that educators are primary agents of moral regeneration in schools.</p><p>Management of both schools praised the South African Police Service for their role in upbringing children and ensuring their well-being, as they believed that raising a child requires different role players. They were confident that the initiative would leave an impact, and as a result, create positive learning environment.
