Anti-Gang Unit arrest suspect and recover firearm

GQEBERHA – Anti-Gang Unit members arrested a 24-year-old male and recovered a 9mm pistol after attending to a complaint of shooting this afternoon in Gelvandale.

It is alleged that at about 12:45, the members responded to a complaint of shooting in Koedoe Street. On arrival, no victim or complainant could be found. According to information at the scene, the alleged suspect was identified as the shooter and his address was immediately searched. The suspect was at home and arrested on a charge of discharging a firearm in a residential area. A 9mm pistol was found under the mattress in his bedroom (serial number filed off). An enquiry docket will be opened for further investigation.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrate court soon. Additional charges may be added as the investigation unfolds. The firearm will be sent to ballistics for further analysis.
