Anti-Gang Unit closes in on criminals

PORT ELIZABETH – Anti- Gang Unit members arrested a teenager and recovered a firearm in separate incidents yesterday, 24 August 2020.
While patrolling hotspot areas, at about 07:30 on 24 August 2020, the AGU members were stopped by community members in Oceanview in Malabar and informed of a male person robbing people in the area. The alleged suspect’s shack was pointed out and, upon searching it, a 9mm pistol was found inside. The serial number was filed off. The firearm was confiscated and an enquiry docket was opened for investigation. No arrest was effected. The firearm will be sent to ballistics for analysis.
In another unrelated incident, at about 15:00 on 24 August 2020, AGU members were patrolling in Ditchling Drive in Algoa Park when they spotted three males who attempted to run when they spotted the police vehicle. Members succeeded in stopping them and upon searching them, a 16-year-old teenager was found wearing a police bullet proof vest.
He was arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property. He is expected to appear in court later this week.
