ANNAPOLIS, Maryland, Sept. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — TRACE International, the globally renowned anti-bribery business association, invites applications for its prestigious TRACE Scholar Program. The program fully funds students from developing countries to pursue an LLM focused on advancing commercial transparency and raising anti-bribery compliance standards. Fellowship recipients spend an academic year at one of four universities, followed by a paid summer internship at TRACE headquarters in Annapolis, Maryland.
This year, TRACE is pleased to welcome the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia as its newest participating institution. The Allard School of Law is internationally recognized for promoting human rights and anti-corruption efforts around the world and administers the Allard Prize for International Integrity. The Allard Prize, first awarded in 2013, recognizes exceptional courage and leadership in combatting corruption and protecting human rights and is one of the world’s largest prizes dedicated to these issues. Professor Catherine Dauvergne, Dean of the law school notes that “The Allard School of Law is thrilled that TRACE is supporting research students working in these areas. This is a wonderful fit for our law school, and for the Allard Prize initiative more broadly.”
Returning law schools taking part in this cycle of the TRACE Scholar Program are: Georgetown University; University of Washington School of Law; and King’s College, Cambridge University. “We are delighted to continue partnering with TRACE in the fourth year of the TRACE Scholar Program,” said Professor Anita Ramasastry of the University of Washington School of Law. “The program has awarded scholarships to outstanding lawyers from around the world who have used the knowledge gained in their graduate studies and their TRACE internship to advance anti-corruption efforts in their home countries.”
The TRACE Scholar program includes full tuition, lodging and travel. Each student will spend one academic year at their chosen institution studying governance and economic development, business ethics and the rule of law. TRACE Scholars undertake to use this scholarship to improve transparency and reduce corruption in their country or region.
Previous TRACE scholarships have been awarded to LLM students from India, Ecuador, Brazil, Kenya, Uganda and Ukraine. “Taking part in the TRACE Scholarship and internship program increased my practical understanding of anti-corruption law and policy, and equipped me with skills and ideas essential to further promote commercial transparency,” said Orest Stasyuk, Ukrainian attorney and 2015-2016 TRACE Scholar at the University of Washington School of Law. “The knowledge and skills I gained will reinforce my practice and directly benefit my community.”
