Attempted robbery suspect swiftly arrested

PORT ELIZABETH Being alert and maintaining vigilance to unusual behaviour or activity while patrolling the streets is important for operational members while combating crime.

On Thursday, 20 February 2020 at about 11:15, Mount Road Crime Prevention members were patrolling in Grahamstown Road when they noticed a woman screaming and running. The members made a U-turn and stopped next to the woman. She informed the police officers that an unknown male attempted to rob her of her cellphone near an open field in Residential Street in Sydenham. The members took the woman with them and patrolled the streets in search of the suspect. As they were driving up Residential Street, the woman spotted the suspect.

A 34-year-old suspect was arrested and detained for attempted robbery. He is expected to appear in court soon.
