Bank of Lisbon implosion has been confirmed

Following the assessment conducted by Structural Engineers at the Bank of Lisbon, a decision to implode the building was taken and is set to take place on Sunday, 24 November 2019.

The fire that engulfed the multi-story building in 2018 which claimed the lives of 3 firefighters, caused extensive damage to the building.

Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development, Tasneem Motara on Wednesday, 20 November announced that a contractor has been awarded a tender and pre-demolishing works have commenced.

“Jet Demolition (Pty) Ltd, has been contracted as part of a competitive bidding process, to provide the implosion service.

“The contractor has completed the pre-demolition process that includes decanting, salvaging, stripping of walls, ceilings and carpets, wrapping of the walls and demolition of basement floor slaps around the main structure core,” said MEC Motara

During the demolishing times, residents who reside around Bank of Lisbon will be temporarily accommodated at Bank City.

The following streets will be closed on Saturday; Diagonal, Helen Joseph, Albertina Sisulu, Ntemi Piliso, Commissioner, Pixley ka Isaka Seme, Commissioner and Fraser street.

The project including clearing of site will be completed in March 2020. Thethe site will then be prepared to meet accommodation needs for provincial government.
