Pretoria: Banyana Banyana will face Tanzania in their opening CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026) match on Monday evening at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco. Banyana Banyana head coach, Dr. Desiree Ellis, emphasized the importance of the opening match, noting that it will set the tone for the rest of the tournament.
According to South African Government News Agency, Ellis stated on the South African Football Association (SAFA) news website, "Everything we have done, everything we have prepared, was towards this game because you cannot prepare further than that without getting a good result." She acknowledged the competitive nature of past encounters with Tanzania, highlighting the physicality they bring to the game. Ellis expressed confidence in her team's preparation and emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean sheet and controlling the game.
The match between South Africa and Tanzania is scheduled to kick off at 7pm South African time (6pm local time in Morocco). The tournament will take place in Morocco from 26 July to 16 August 2026, with South Africa drawn in Group B alongside Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Tanzania.
