Barkly East police conducts a Safer Festive Season Operation

Today, members of Elliot K9 Unit, Cluster Visible Policing (Vispol), Barkly East Detectives, Barkly East Mounted Unit, Barkly East Vispol, the Aliwal North Liquor Board, and the Barkly East Stock Theft Unit, conducted a joint operation in Barkly East. Five people were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property, theft out of motor vehicle and stock theft, respectively during the operation.

A total of 200 people were stopped and searched, two suspected drug outlets and nine illegal liquor outlets were searched. Two liquor outlets were issued with notices for not appointing managers as stipulated in the terms of the Liquor Act. A total of 101 070 ml of liquor were confiscated and one television, seven dangerous weapons and 35kg of meat were seized by members of the SAPS.

Elliot Cluster Commander, Colonel Matshediso Gezani, commended the successes accomplished by the members. She stated that it is crucial to conduct operations in preparations for the busy festive season ahead. She also thanked the Aliwal North Liquor Board for the partnership in the operation.
