Belhar Pentech housing project beneficiaries empowered with title deeds

Qualifying beneficiaries of the City of Cape Town’s Belhar Pentech housing project were empowered with the title deeds to their homes today, 4 March 2022. Title deeds unlock economic opportunities for future generations and provide proof of ownership to residents.

The handover of title deeds is an important part of the City’s efforts to enable redress and transformation. Beneficiaries of the City’s Belhar Pentech housing project were pleased when they received their title deeds earlier today. The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi, and other dignitaries handed over seven title deeds to beneficiaries.

‘A title deed is more than just a piece of paper. Our beneficiaries, who were previously denied access to property ownership, now have proof that they are homeowners. It becomes proof of the financial asset and empowers beneficiaries to use that asset for leverage where possible and when necessary, and to one day transfer ownership to their children.

‘Today we celebrate with residents as we empower them with their title deeds. We thank the team of people who were involved in this project for the hard work and dedication in helping us provide opportunities to these beneficiaries. Over the coming months, we will continue to hand over many more title deeds to beneficiaries. The City remains committed to building an inclusive city, unlocking opportunities and enabling redress,’ said Councillor Booi.
