Bishop Lavis SAPS operational successes

Bishop Lavis SAPS members continue their commitment in creating a safe and secure environment for all.

On Sunday, 03 March 2019 at about 20:45, SAPS members conducted stop and search operations in the hotspot areas known for gang violence.

A 25-year-old male, a well-known gang member was searched. One 9mm pistol with one magazine with three rounds of ammunition were confiscated. A case of possession of a prohibited firearm was registered for investigation.

Later the same evening, during routine crime prevention activities at about 21:40, members of the Crime Prevention Unit responded to information received from a valuable source relating to a male person in possession of a firearm. When SAPS members spotted the suspect who fitted the clothing description they approached the suspect who then fled with SAPS members in pursuit.

The 26-year-old suspect was arrested, after he was found in possession of one 9mm pistol and one magazine with four rounds of ammunition.

Once charged, both suspects will make a court appearance in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated incident on Thursday, 2019-02-28 at about 01:00, a hijacking occurred on Baden Powell Drive Muizenberg, where a 51-year-old resident of Goodwood was held at gunpoint and robbed of his Silver VW Polo, phone, wallet and shoes. The suspects fled the scene in the direction of Muizenberg.

At approximately 01:20, members of Diep River SAPS noticed a suspicious vehicle in Mocke Road and upon seeing the police, the suspects attempted to evade the SAPS members and a high speed chase ensued.

After a short while, the vehicle was brought to a stop in Main Road Diep River. Two suspects aged 32 and 35 were arrested and taken to Diep River SAPS.

After initial investigation it was determined that the vehicle had been used in the hijacking in Muizenberg and the suspects were subsequently detained at Muizenberg SAPS.

Further investigation led the SAPS members to arrest another three suspects aged 24, 34 and 36 respectively. The hijacked vehicle was then also recovered in Schaapkraal.
