PORT ALFRED – The SAPS have opened an inquest docket following an incident at Port Alfred this morning. At approximately 05:30 a report was received of a vehicle that went off Wharf Street and drove into the Kowie River. Emergency services responded and found the vehicle submerged approximately 5 meters in the river. The body of a female in her 30’s was retrieved from the vehicle. Her identity is still being established and will be released once the next of kin have been informed.

The details of the incident are unclear at this stage and will be investigated.

During a recovery operation with emergency services, the vehicle has been salvaged.
