According to South African Government News Agency, the announcement was part of the New Delhi Declaration, which reiterates BRICS' dedication to strengthening ICT collaboration based on national and international priorities. The 18th BRICS Summit, hosted by India under the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,' highlights a people-centered approach to digital transformation.
BRICS acknowledged the need for a comprehensive approach to ICT development and security, addressing issues like security threats, data protection, and the misuse of technology, including cybercrime and misinformation. The group emphasized the importance of globally interoperable standards for supply chain security and the role of telecommunications in maintaining peace and development.
The declaration also addressed concerns over illicit financial activities, including terrorism financing and money laundering, underscoring the need for coordinated international efforts to combat these issues.
