Brothers appear in court for murder of their father

PHUTHADITJHABA – Two brothers, Matetela Fani Monareng (24) and Mohau Ben Monareng (21) from Bochabela Village in Qwaqwa appeared briefly at Phuthaditjhaba Magistrates Court on 12 February 2020 following a brutal murder of their biological father in what seemed like a domestic violence related incident. The case has been postponed to 26 February 2020 for formal bail application.

On 10 February 2020 at about 23:07 a 24-year-old complainant came to the police station to report a domestic violence related incident at their house. The police went with the complainant to his residence and on arrival they found a body of a man lying on the ground with his throat cut and multiple stab wounds to his upper body. The deceased Nono Paulsi Monareng (49) who was a General Worker at Phuthadijhaba Mounted Unit was declared dead at the scene.

During preliminary investigation it was alleged that the deceased youngest son was fighting with his father which ultimately led to the stabbing. Both brothers were arrested, detained and charged with murder.

The motive behind the alleged murder of their father is unknown at this stage.

We appeal to our members and their families to utilize services of the Employee Health and Wellness to assist with their domestic related challenges instead of resorting to violence. Our heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues said Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane.
