Motherwell: The Cluster Commander for Motherwell Cluster, Maj Gen DawieRabie has warned businesses to be vigilant during closing times especially on weekends. This warning is issued after a cash and carry store was robbed on Sunday, 30 September 2018 in Ikamvelihle.
It is alleged that at about 16:10, the store closed however the shutters were closed half way to allow customers to exit. Between 7-10 armed men entered the store and held the staff and manager at gunpoint. The till points were emptied of their cash. An undisclosed amount of money was taken.
As the suspects exited, they were confronted by police who were doing patrols. The officers were unaware that a robbery was in progress at the store. One of the armed men shot at the police vehicle with a rifle. No injuries sustained just damages to the police vehicle. The suspects fled in two bakkies. No arrests have been made.
Maj Gen Rabie has cautioned business owners to ensure that security guards are observant at all times especially during opening and closing times. ‘Panic alarms must be activated as soon as there is anything suspicious. We appealing to the community to assist us in tracing the suspects or who may have any information relating to this brazen robbery,’ added Maj Gen Rabie.
