Cape Town Executive Mayor Dan Plato wishes all Muslims well over the holy month of Ramadaan

Statement by the City of Cape Town Executive Mayor, Alderman Dan Plato

As our Muslim community prepares for the month of Ramadaan which officially starts tomorrow, Tuesday 7 May 2019, in South Africa, on behalf of the City of Cape Town I would like to extend my best wishes to you all during this period of deep spirituality. As you observe this month of fasting, reflection, sacrifice and giving, I wish you strength and fulfilment.

One of the characteristics of this period is to extend a hand to the less fortunate. As we head into our winter months, it’s something we can all try to do. As a caring city, we encourage all Capetonians to assist organisations who are making a difference in the lives of our vulnerable residents.

We appreciate the important role that the Muslim community plays in our city, your generosity and compassion help us to achieve our commitment of building a caring city.

Cape Town is a diverse mix of cultures, religions and beliefs; the rainbow nation that the late Nelson Mandela spoke and dreamed of, is a dream we still hold dear. By being united through our diversity and remembering our humanity, we can make this great city even greater.
