City advises of water supply disruption in the Bizweni, Rome Glen and Van Der Stel areas in the Helderberg

The City’s Water and Sanitation Department will be shutting down the 840mm diameter bulk water main between Van der Stel and Gordons Bay from Friday, 11 March 2022 at 18:00 until Sunday, 13 March 2022 at 18:00. Alternative water supply will be rerouted to these areas to eliminate the possibility of water supply disruptions. However, lower than usual water pressure may be experienced during this period.

This 48-hour shut down will enable the maintenance crew to replace an inline valve and a scour valve which are showing signs of wear and tear due to ageing. This work forms part of the City’s pro-active maintenance programme for its bulk water infrastructure which will ensure continued water supply to these areas.

Careful consideration has been given to the planning of the work to ensure minimal disruption to consumers in the area.

Although no significant water supply disruptions are anticipated to result from this work, residents in the Helderberg area are advised to use water sparingly over this period to reduce the strain on the water supply system while the work is under way. Reducing water consumption will help reduce the impact on communities in these areas.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.
