City advises of water supply disruptions in Steenberg Golf Estate, Sarepta, Ounooiensfontein and a section of Ilitha Park

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be doing planned work in the identified areas which will result in water supply disruptions. The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure to benefit its consumers.

What residents need to know about planned water supply disruptions:

• Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.

• Please kindly store water in clean sealed containers for domestic use during this period.

• Please keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.

Zero-Pressure Tests

• Steenberg Golf Estate

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will conduct zero pressure tests on the main water supply to the Steenberg Golf Estate. This work will disrupt the water supply to this area bounded by Steenberg Road, Tokai Road and Zwaanswyk Road on Wednesday, 26 October 2022, from 22:00 overnight until 04:00 on Thursday, 27 October 2022.

Zero-pressure testing is part of the installation process for pressure management technology. Tests are done to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing smart pressure-reducing valves.

In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure, and some may have no water coming out of their taps for some time during this overnight testing period. It is impossible to predict which areas or streets will experience disruptions.

This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.

Maintenance Works

Sarepta and Ounooiensfontein

The water supply to the Sarepta and Ounooiensfontein areas will be temporarily shut down on Thursday, 27 October 2022 from 20:30 overnight until 02:00 on Friday, 28 October 2022. This will enable the maintenance crew to safely do an urgent installation of a control valve on the 250mm diameter water main to Sarepta and Ounooiensfontein. This will result in the disruption of the water supply to these areas. This work will afford the operations team to reduce the affected areas in the event of a pipe burst in the future, thereby reducing the number of consumers inconvenienced.

A section of Ilitha Park in Khayelitsha

The water supply along Ntlazane Street in the Ilitha Park area in Khayelitsha will be temporarily shut down on Wednesday, 26 October 2022 from 09:00 until 13:00. This will enable the maintenance team to do an assessment of the water supply network to determine the possible extent of the impact on consumers when they do the actual shutoff to replace a faulty 450mm diameter valve on the pipeline. This preparatory work also affords them the opportunity to look at ways of reducing the impact as far as possible.
