‘The City’s enforcement agencies continue their clampdown on errant motorists, drug dealers and criminals who generally thumb their noses at the law. Complaints about lawlessness on our roads continue, but weekly numbers show our officers are making their mark in curbing the scourge,’ said the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

Some of the Metro Police success this week include confiscating more than 10kg of dagga in one incident, the arrest of a drunk driver who rear-ended a patrol vehicle and the arrest of another person for being in the possession of the City’s blue refuse bags.

In an integrated operation with the City’s Loss Control Risk Management to curb the illegal sale of the City’s blue refuse bags, one person was arrested for the illegal possession of 190 blue bags.

In other operations, Metro Police officers arrested 11 drunk drivers in Claremont and Rondebosch with one driver also being charged with the possession of 3 packets of cocaine and one straw with cocaine; in an operation in Cape Town and Maitland officers arrested 11 drunk drivers; in Mandela Park officers arrested a 23-year-old for contravening a protection order, intimidation and harassment; and in a joint operation with SAPS in Nomzamo and Strand officers searched five houses and arrested seven suspects for the possession of and dealing in drugs.
