City puts its best foot forward for the Cape Town Big Walk

The annual event, which raises funds for charitable causes, is an institution in Cape Town and attracts close to 20 000 participants.

Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard will be abuzz with activity on Sunday 7 April 2019 for the annual Cape Town Big Walk.

The event is a highlight on Cape Town’s annual calendar and drew a crowd of 18 000 in 2018.

The City of Cape Town is providing support services to the value of R280 000 through the deployment of enforcement and emergency service staff, solid waste services and the provision of the Cape Town Stadium and Green Point Athletics Track facilities as venues for the event.

The Executive Mayor, Alderman Dan Plato, will be on hand to wish walkers well before they set off from Vlei Road in Green Point starting at 06:30. The event includes a 10km, 8km and 5km route and ends at Hamilton’s Rugby Club in Green Point.

Residents, visitors and participants are advised to take note of the temporary road closures which will be in place on the day until 11:00 and to make alternative travel plans should they be impacted by the closures.

Motorists are also advised to please obey the relevant road signage and to park only in legal, designated areas.
