City to commence with resurfacing of sections of Govan Mbeki Road

The City of Cape Town will commence with the resurfacing of sections of Govan Mbeki Road between Symphony Way and Duinefontein Road today, 26 January 2023. The project includes the road marking of Govan Mbeki Road between Swartklip Road and Duinefontein Road. Residents can expect the work to continue until mid-March 2023, pending unforeseen delays and inclement weather.

The work is planned to take place on weekdays between 07:30 and 17:00 to limit the impact on road users. The affected sections of Govan Mbeki Road will be closed to two-way traffic and a stop-go system will be in place for the duration of the roadworks. Provision will be made for the morning and afternoon peak traffic periods to allow road-users to make use of the roadway without undue delays.

‘We ask that the community please cooperate with our team on the ground while the project is ongoing. By resurfacing these sections, we provide residents in the area with a safe and smooth road surface. The road markings will also improve visibility and safety. We have measures in place to help direct residents during the construction period and we urge all road users to please comply,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The City’s Road Infrastructure Management Department will be milling out the existing road surface and replacing it with a new asphalt road surface. This work forms part of regular maintenance to prolong the longevity of the city’s road network.
