The City’s Gugulethu Infill affordable housing project is making steady progress. Today,15 August 2022, Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi and officials in the Human Settlements Department visited Erf 8448 in Gugulethu to check on the project’s progress.
The Gugulethu Infill affordable housing project has been impacted by illegal occupation as well as contractor delays over recent months. However, contractors are back on site and significant progress is being made.
The Gugulethu Infill housing project stretches over two sites, Erf 8448 in Gugulethu and Mau Mau in Nyanga.
‘We are pleased to see the construction making significant strides and we are happy to see our beneficiaries that have already received their units in July 2022 enjoying their brand new homes.
‘Over the coming weeks and months, the City will be handing over more homes to beneficiaries and we thank our teams and contractors for their hard work and dedication thus far.
‘The Gugulethu Infill housing project is one of the City’s housing projects which were unfortunately affected by unlawful occupation. We cannot condone these actions and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the project is protected so that beneficiaries receive their homes. If all goes according to plan, the Gugulethu Infill housing project should be completed by September 2023. Our teams are also doing their level best to ensure that units currently in progress are completed by the end of this year. The project will provide opportunities for 1004 households once it is completed.
