Pretoria: The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) has expressed its condolences to the family and friends of the late Judge Frans Kgomo. The Chief Justice of the Republic of South Africa, Justice Mandisa Maya, conveyed the Judiciary's profound sadness at the passing of retired Judge Nare Frans Kgomo, who previously served in the Limpopo Division of the High Court. According to South African Government News Agency, Judge Kgomo devoted numerous years to the justice system, occupying various roles before his appointment to the Bench. His career began as a Public Prosecutor and evolved through positions such as Sheriff/Messenger of the Court, court interpreter, and clerk of the court, eventually becoming a Magistrate before entering private practice. In 2008, he was appointed as Judge of the Gauteng Division of the High Court. While serving in Gauteng, Judge Kgomo frequently undertook circuit court duties in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. He was later appointed to the Limpopo Division of the High Court on 28 November 20 16, a position he held until his retirement on 1 October 2022. His career was marked by a steadfast commitment to justice and public service, reflecting a deep reservoir of institutional knowledge and experience that enriched his contributions to the judiciary. The Office of the Chief Justice expressed profound sadness over Kgomo's passing, noting that his loss would be keenly felt by his colleagues, members of the legal profession, court officials, and all those whose lives he impacted throughout his extensive career. The Chief Justice extended heartfelt condolences to the Kgomo family, his friends, former colleagues, and all who knew and worked with him.
