Convict sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for possession of explosives

KWAZULU-NATAL – On Friday, 28 August 2020 Port Shepstone Regional Court convicted and sentenced Xolani Mteshana (47) to 14 years imprisonment for possession of explosives, detonators, live rounds of ammunition and drugs.
On 17 February 2019, Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime unit received information about a suspect who was in possession of explosives in Murchison area, Port Shepstone. Members critically analysed the information and it turned out that it was the same suspect, Mteshana that was sentenced to five years imprisonment for possession of explosives in 2013.
An operation was conducted and members proceeded to the said house. During the search members found explosives, detonators, live rounds of ammunition and drugs.
Mteshana was immediately place under arrest and charged with possession of explosives. Hawks’ members managed to successfully oppose bail and Mteshana was remanded in custody until he was finally sentenced.
