CoGTA Briefing to the Portfolio Committee on the Annual Performance Plan 2018/19

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, (CoGTA), Mr Andries Nel will lead a team to present the Departmental Annual Performance Plan (APP) 2018/19 to the Portfolio Committee as tabled in Parliament on the 12th of March 2018. As the portfolio committee exercise oversight on our work, the opportunity to present the APP is important.

The mandate of the Ministry of CoGTA is primarily to ensure that the systems related to Intergovernmental Relations, Local Government and Traditional Leadership are functional and effective in discharging their Constitutional obligations.

CoGTA will brief the Portfolio Committee on the plans going forward and progress made with respect to the work done thus far in line with the approved APP. The presentation by CoGTA will also respond to previous recommendations made by the Committee, as well as respond to some of the issues raised by the Auditor-General South Africa (AGSA).

CoGTA is presenting this APP within the context of the current positive changes that are sweeping through the country. These changes also affect our municipalities which are also positioning themselves to provide better services to communities. To this effect, the current APP will begin to move us forward guided by the Back to Basics (B2B) programme and turning our municipalities around as per the plan outlined by the Minister of CoGTA, Dr Zweli Mkhize.

The CoGTA APP will show interventions and support programmes that will be undertaken, within the allocated budget and existing capacity in the 2018/2019 financial year to assist municipalities.
