Cousin to undergo 12 years imprisonment for rape

EASTERN CAPE – The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has welcomed the hefty sentence imposed against the perpetrator rape of a minor girl (14) by her cousin who was entrusted to be her custodian.
It is alleged that during the day on 29 December 2019, the victim was at her residential place at Rhodesia location Ngxaxa A/A in Katkop area. The victim came inside the house to change clothes when the suspect dragged the victim into a room and raped her.
On the following day, a case was opened and investigated by the office of the FCS family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit and assigned to D/Cst Garane for further handling.
The accused was arrested and bail was granted to him until finalization of the case.
On 15 September 2020 the accused (28) was convicted and sentence to undergo 12 years imprisonment at Mt Flecther Regional court and also unfit to possess firearm.
The investigation Officer was commended for a sterling job well done and professional investigation that led to the good sentence.
