Crime intelligence operation yielded good results, firearms seized

KING WILLIAMS TOWN In a crime intelligence driven operation together with King Williams Town Flying Squad, K9 Unit, King Williams Town and Zwelitsha police members, five suspects were arrested this morning, 13 February 2020.

Police followed up on information received about a house at Tshaka Street at Ginsberg in King Williams Town that had firearms and males that are allegedly involved in robberies. On police arrival they searched the house and recovered three pistols hidden in a bag and a toy gun. Five suspects aged between 20 and 30 years from Ginsberg were immediately arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearms. Police confiscated these firearms and the Opel Corsa that was involved in the crime was also seized.

In a separate Crime intelligence operation incident, last night police arrested a 29-year-old male from Ezintenteni at Ndevana outside King Williams Town for possession of unlicensed firearm and two full mandrax tablets. Police followed the information they received about a man who have an unlicensed firearm. They went to the house and search the house and found a pistol and serial number was filed off.

These suspects will appear at Zwelitsha and King Williams Town Magistrates Courts on Monday.

King Williams Town SAPS Cluster Commander Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga commended the members for the job well done in arresting these suspects and to ensure that firearms are off the streets. He also thanked the community for sharing valuable information with SAPS and encouraged them to report any criminal activities to 08600 10111.
