Criminals are disarmed in the Western Cape

If you are in possession of an unlicensed or prohibited firearm in this province, regard yourself soughed by the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU). During the early hours of this morning AGU members reacted on a tipoff at a residence in Uitsig, Ravensmead and conducted a search operation at the address. The information was accurate and a 9mm pistol without a serial number and four rounds of ammunition were found. In addition to the firearm, the members also came across 490 mandrax tablets and R14 870-00 cash, believed to be the proceeds of drug trafficking. The suspect, a 23-year-old man with links to a local gang in the area was arrested and detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and dealing in drugs. He is expected to make a court appearance on Monday, 29 April 2019 to face the charges against him.

Last night a 32-year-old suspect was apprehended by police in Borchards Quarry close to Airport Industrial for being in possession of a 9mm firearm without a serial number and 53 ecstasy tablets. The suspect was spotted by vigilant Flying Squad members driving without his lights which prompted a search of his vehicle. He is also expected to make his court appearance on Monday, 29 April 2019 to face charges of possession of a prohibit firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs.
