The City’s upgrade to informal settlements project (UISP) in the Deep Freeze informal settlement (Freesia Park) Macassar is making progress and the civil works is nearing completion. The project will benefit more than 400 residents in the area.

The City’s Upgrade to Informal Settlements Programme (UISP) creates serviced sites in areas, and equips residential erven with basic services such as water connections, sewer connections, electricity and refuse removal.

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi and officials in the City’s Human Settlements Directorate visited the area to take a closer look at the progress.
‘We are pleased to see the progress being made by City teams and contractors. The project will provide 440 serviced sites to qualifying beneficiaries, and will have sewer and water connections on a one-to-one basis. Storm-water infrastructure has been installed and we are in the process of completing the blacktop roads in the area. The roads will provide better access to services as well as increase the ability and efficacy of emergency services to gain access to the area by means of the A-grade roads.
‘This project will bring much needed services to the community and we are pleased to see that it will be completed on schedule. The City remains committed to mainstreaming basic services and enhancing services to work with informality where it is possible to do so and to improve the lives of vulnerable residents,’ said Councillor Booi.
