Department of Women urges Mdu Masilela and similar men to seek professional anger management interventions

Pretoria – Notwithstanding his earlier assertion that he is, Against women and children abuse so for me to be labelled an abuser is sad, following a charge of attempted murder stemming from an accusation that he pulled a gun on his wife Sarah Masilela and fired wildly into the air. Sadly kwaito singer Mdu Masilela finds himself embroiled in a similar controversy three months later.

According to a report in the Sowetan newspaper, Masilela allegedly assaulted the mother of his eight month old baby, Sibahle Dlamini who decided to open a case against the father of her child.

The star handed himself to the police and subsequently appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s court where he was released on a bail of R500. Captain Allie Kodisang is quoted as saying the police are investigating a case of common assault against the star, and is expected to appear in court this November.

The earlier incident concerning his wife was reportedly also confirmed by police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini who reportedly confirmed that Masilela appeared at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court and been released on bail.

Whilst Masilela has not been found guilty by any court of law and without wanting to impugn his right to the due process of law, it is a matter of grave concern that Masilela has been embroiled in two controversies involving alleged physical violence against women.

Accordingly as the Department of Women we would like to urge Masilela and many more men like him to seek professional help in anger management.

Furthermore it also prudent to commend Dlamini and other women like her for breaking the silence. The department and the government would also like to urge other women who might be confronted with similar circumstances to be brave and come forward to seek help and report the matter to the police.
