Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa visits EPWP projects in Inanda- Durban, 21 Jul

The Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa will on 21 July 2016 lead a delegation of Cabinet Ministers on the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) Zibambele Road Maintenance project visit in Inanda township in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Zibambele Road Maintenance programme was launched in 1998 by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government to alleviate poverty and create work opportunities. This programme is making a significant impact in ensuring that communities benefit financially from the maintenance of provincial roads, the programme created 40 000 work opportunities in 2015/16.

The site visit will include interaction with the EPWP participants, walkabout around the community assets created and maintained as well as conducting an assessment on the impact of the Programme in alleviating poverty and unemployment through the provision of work opportunities to the poor and unemployment South Africans.

In his capacity as the chairperson of the Public Employment Programmes Inter-ministerial Committee (PEP-IMC) which comprises of the Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Director Generals, Deputy Director Generals and EPWP sector leads departments (NB Social sector is led by Minister of Social Development, Environment and Culture sector is led by the Minister of Environmental Affairs, Infrastructure sector is led by the Minister of Public Works while the Non-state sector is led by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs)

PEP-IMC is aimed to provide a high-level and collective leadership to achieve better synergy among Public Employment Programmes and to ensure that the government achieve its target of creating 6 million work opportunities by 2019.
