DMPR Issues Correction on Diesel Price Adjustment for May

Cape town: The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) has published an Erratum concerning the diesel price adjustment initially released on Monday. The revised price adjustments are effective immediately.

According to South African Government News Agency, during the calculation of fuel prices for May 2026, an error occurred where a 93.00 cents per litre reduction in the fuel levy on diesel was mistakenly recorded as 0.93 cents per litre. This mistake led to a higher-than-intended increase in the wholesale price of diesel, which was incorrectly set at R6.19 per litre instead of the correct R5.27 per litre.

The corrected fuel price adjustments for May are as follows: Petrol 93 and 95 (ULP and LRP) will see an increase of R3.27 per litre. Diesel with 0.05% sulphur and 0.005% sulphur will both have an increase of R5.27 per litre. Illuminating paraffin will experience a wholesale price increase of R4.22 per litre, with the single maximum national retail price increasing by R5.63 per litre. Additionally, the maximum retail price of LPGas will rise by R5.07 per kg in Gauteng and R5.78 per kg in the Western Cape.

The DMPR expressed regret over the error and apologized for any inconvenience caused prior to the fuel price adjustment. The department emphasized its commitment to providing timely, accurate, and transparent information to the public and all stakeholders.
