Drug operations to continue to yield positive results

DURBAN A 25-year-old man is appearing at Durban Magistrates Court today after he was taken into custody by police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit for possession of drugs yesterday.

The suspect was arrested after he was found with drugs in his possession near the railway station and bus terminal in Durban. Police confiscated three and half-moons of rock cocaine, 1200 capsules of heroin, 180 pieces of heroin stones and 160 pieces of rock cocaine.

He was instantly arrested and charged for being in possession of drugs at the Durban Central police station. Drugs with an estimated street value of more than R57,000-00 was seized from his possession. Police investigations are continuing and we cannot rule out the possibility of additional charges being added after the suspect appears in court.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula has commended police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit for their dedication in breaking the backs of criminals who peddle drugs. We once again appeal to communities to continue reporting drug dealers to police and ensure that our youth are not exposed to these notorious individuals who introduce them to these dependence producing substances, he said.
