PORT ELIZABETH – Concerted efforts by law enforcement officers to cripple the drug trade are ongoing in hotspot areas where there are known drug activity and drug dens.

PE Metro police assisted by the PE K9 Unit arrested a 31-year-old male during the early hours of this morning, 04 February 2020, at the corners of Rose and Robson Streets in Central. It is alleged that Metro police officials were monitoring strange activity taking place near an all-night shop and a Nissan bakkie that was parked nearby. After a while, the officers approached the vehicle and searched it. Nothing was found in the vehicle. The officers then left.

At about 00:45, the officers once again searched the bakkie and on closer examination, a pair of socks with a mixture of drugs were found in the engine compartment of the vehicle. Another sock was found under the vehicle’s chassis, also with a cocktail of drugs. A total of 41g of cocaine, 21g of tik, 32 g of dagga and 109g of mandrax and dagga was confiscated. The estimated street value of the drugs is R15 000. The owner of the vehicle was arrested for dealing and possession of drugs.

He is expected to appear in court soon.

Mount Road Cluster Commander, Maj Gen Thembisile Patekile has warned these drug pedlars that ‘we will continue to clamp down and apprehend drug dealers who are destroying the lives of innocent people.’
