Dunoon PTI Steering Committee lauded for its efforts

Last night, Wednesday, 23 March 2022, Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, visited the Dunoon Public Transport Interchange to hand out certificates to the Steering Committee members, who played a significant role during the construction of the Dunoon Public Transport Interchange. Councillor Quintas also went to Belhar to honour the Community Liaison Officer who played a major role in the Belhar Road extension project.

‘The multi-million rand project in Dunoon faced challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic and would not have been completed without the support and guidance of the Project Steering Committee. Thus, it makes sense that we recognise the significant role that this committee played. It is a display of leadership, love for their community, active citizenship and willingness to work with the government for the advancement of their community,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

‘Partnering with communities in deploying dedicated resources for targeted interventions is one of our priorities. We are committed to building more sustainable, cohesive and inclusive communities, and the Dunoon Steering Committee has set an example that we would like to see across the city. This will not only make service delivery smoother, but will also strengthen the future for collaborative efforts between government and communities. Well done Dunoon, we look forward to working with you in future projects. I also want to call on other communities to take a page from this committee’s book and help make progress possible as we deliver services across Cape Town communities,’ said Councillor Quintas.

Mr Edmund du Plooy, who assisted with the Belhar Road extension project said: ‘I am deeply humbled and it is an honour to receive this on behalf of the people. It is not mine. I was there for the community; I was there for the City and the contractor. The fact that the City recognised the Highbury Ratepayers and Residents Association during the whole project, was the correct first step. They called on us, and that motivated me to work with the City on this project. This was the first major development in 30 years in Highbury and this is why Highbury gave its full support to the project and at the end of the day, it turned out to be a very, very good project, and a quality road. Everybody in Highbury is happy about it.’
